Public beta ends soon
What does this mean?

RiviMate launched a couple of months ago now in what we call a public beta. This was to test the platform against real data, and with load from multiple users. So far, we have several users on the platform and have gained a ton of great insight into what we were doing right, and what we were doing wrong.

From the beginning, the plan was to eventually have subscriptions for all users. As a data-heavy platform, the cost to run is not insubstantial. I have done what I can to minimize the cost of running the platform, and I think as we scale, the subscription price could come down, but it requires more users on the platform, and as it grows, I will need to analyze the cost to run - keeping in mind that Rivian's API will likely not be free forever, which will add considerable cost to the platform. Know that I will always work to make sure pricing is fair, but there are factors that are just out of my control, unfortunately.

In the last two months, we have delivered on all of the features that I wanted to deliver: drive and charge tracking, of course, but also battery health tracking, automated alerts (Lookout), achievements (Adventure Log), and more. The platform is now at a point at which I think we have a great feature set, and things are working (mostly) as intended. That's not to say there aren't bugs, and that they won't continue to be worked on - and that there aren't more features coming. But, the development cadence will slow considerably.

What does this mean for self-hosted?

One of the goals I had from the beginning was to offer this as a self-hostable option - I give you the docker, you run it for yourself. Development for RiviMate all along has kept this in mind and the self-hosted version is essentially ready to go. However, one of the biggest things I want to do before opening up RiviMate to self hosting is to make sure the platform is solid. I don't intend to support self-hosted instances in the same way I support Pro. Self hosted will get updates and you can download and install them yourself, but I don't intend to make myself available to solve issues or help with standing it up. For that reason, I want to be sure it's fool-proof and ready to go. When it is ready, I will make it available on rivimate.com and throw up a blog post.

So, subscriptions then

Yep, subscriptions. As much as I loathe them, when in the context of an ongoing service that costs money to run, a subscription is necessary for Pro. Obviously, self-hosted will be free (though I will gladly accept tips!) because it costs me nothing for you to run it yourself, but running a live service like this is pricey.

Subscriptions will be enabled at the start of April 2026. Existing and new users will get a week trial to try out the service. You can cancel at any time, but if you cancel, we of course will stop collecting new data for your vehicle. You're free to download your data at any time. Subscriptions for all will be $4.99 a month, but if you use our Refer a Friend feature, you and your referral will get a month free. You can refer unlimited times!

I want to thank everyone that gave us a shot during the open beta, especially Geomglot, for helping test and share ideas!
